In New Zealand the scenery feels almost unreal: glassy lakes holding perfect mountain reflections, sheep scattered over emerald hills, waterfalls pouring down the cliffs of Milford Sound. Every turn of the road looks like a screensaver – except you are in it.

New Zealand visa for Indians
Indians apply online for a New Zealand Visitor Visa; the fee includes the International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy. Most applications are decided within about three weeks, so apply six to eight weeks before travel with bank statements, income proof and your itinerary.
A 10-night itinerary
- Auckland (2 nights): Sky Tower, waterfront and a day trip to Hobbiton.
- Rotorua (2 nights): geysers and bubbling mud pools, Maori culture evening, the Redwoods.
- Queenstown (4 nights): the gondola, Lake Wakatipu cruise, Arrowtown, adventure activities and a full-day trip to Milford Sound.
- Christchurch or Wanaka (2 nights): lakes, Mount Cook views, then home.
Leave space in the plan – the best moments in New Zealand are the unplanned viewpoints along the road.
When to go
Seasons are reversed. December to March is summer – long days and the best weather. March to May brings golden autumn colours. June to August is winter with snow and skiing around Queenstown. Spring (September–November) is fresh and green with fewer crowds.
