Japan is quiet in a way that surprises you. Trains glide in on time to the second. Streets are spotless. A temple garden in Kyoto feels so still you can hear the gravel under your feet. And then Tokyo switches on at night – neon, noise and a thousand tiny restaurants.

The Japan eVisa for Indians
Indian residents apply for a single-entry tourist eVisa through Japan’s visa centre (VFS Global) in India. It allows stays of up to 90 days and is meant for travellers arriving by air. Processing takes at least five working days, so apply three to four weeks before you fly. You will need your passport, a photo, flight and hotel bookings, a day-by-day plan and recent bank statements – we prepare the itinerary and bookings for you.
When to go
Cherry blossom (sakura) usually peaks from late March to early April in Tokyo and Kyoto – parks turn soft pink and everyone picnics under the trees. Autumn leaves glow red and gold from late October to late November. Both seasons are beautiful and busy, so book early. Summer is hot and humid; winter is crisp and great for snow in the north.
Japan rewards a slower pace. Fewer cities, more time – and you will feel the country, not just see it.
A 9-day itinerary
- Days 1–3, Tokyo: Shibuya Crossing, Senso-ji temple in Asakusa, Meiji Shrine, teamLab, and a night view from Shibuya Sky.
- Day 4, Hakone or Mt Fuji: lake cruise, ropeway and views of Fuji on a clear day; stay in a ryokan with hot-spring baths.
- Days 5–7, Kyoto: Fushimi Inari’s orange gates at sunrise, Kinkaku-ji, the Arashiyama bamboo grove and Gion at dusk. Day trip to Nara’s friendly deer.
- Days 8–9, Osaka: Osaka Castle, Dotonbori’s street food and an optional Universal Studios day.

The Shinkansen (bullet train) links Tokyo to Kyoto in about two and a quarter hours. Inside cities, metros are fast and simple with a rechargeable IC card on your phone. A Japan Rail Pass is worth it only for long routes – we compare the pass with single tickets for your plan.

Japanese food is a joy – but vegetarians should plan. Look for Indian restaurants (common in Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka), Buddhist temple cuisine (shojin ryori) and convenience-store onigiri with plum or seaweed. Many dashi broths contain fish, so ask. We can arrange vegetarian-friendly hotels and a printed card explaining your diet in Japanese.
Good to know
- Japan is very safe and spotless – carry a small bag for your rubbish, as public bins are rare.
- Tipping is not expected.
- Pack light – you will be on trains a lot. Luggage forwarding between hotels is cheap and easy.
