At dawn in Cappadocia, a hundred hot-air balloons rise together over valleys of pink and honey-coloured rock. By evening you are in Istanbul, the call to prayer drifting over the Bosphorus while the city lights up on two continents. Turkey is pure theatre.

Turkey visa for Indians

All Indians need a visa for Turkey. If you hold a valid US, UK, Schengen or Ireland visa or residence permit, you can apply for the quick online e-Visa (single entry, up to 30 days). Everyone else applies for a regular sticker visa through Turkey’s visa application centre in India – allow two to three weeks. We prepare the itinerary, hotel bookings and cover letter for you.

02

A 7-night itinerary

  1. Istanbul (3 nights): Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, the Grand Bazaar and a Bosphorus cruise at sunset.
  2. Cappadocia (2 nights): sunrise balloon flight, the fairy chimneys of Göreme, an underground city and a cave-hotel stay.
  3. Antalya or Pamukkale (2 nights): the turquoise Mediterranean coast, or the white travertine terraces of Pamukkale.

Domestic flights save a full day of driving between regions.

Book the balloon flight for your first morning in Cappadocia – if the wind cancels it, you still have another chance.
03

When to go

April to June and September to October are perfect – warm days, cool evenings and good balloon conditions. July and August are hot and busy on the coast. Winter brings snow to Cappadocia – magical for photos, but some balloon flights are cancelled by weather.

Food for Indian travellers

Turkish breakfast is a feast – cheeses, olives, eggs, honey, fresh bread. Vegetarians do well with mezze, lentil soup, stuffed vine leaves and gözleme. Indian restaurants are easy to find in Istanbul.

FAQ

Questions travellers ask

Do Indians get an e-Visa for Turkey?

Only Indians holding a valid US, UK, Schengen or Ireland visa or residence permit qualify for the e-Visa. Others apply for a sticker visa through the visa centre in India.

Is the Cappadocia balloon ride safe?

Flights are run by licensed operators with experienced pilots and are cancelled when winds are unsafe. Keep two mornings in Cappadocia so you have a back-up day.

How many days are enough for Turkey?

Seven to nine nights covers Istanbul, Cappadocia and the coast comfortably.
