Mauritius smells of sea salt and sugar cane. Mountains rise straight out of a lagoon in every shade of blue, and somewhere a temple bell rings – one of the many reminders of the island’s deep Indian roots. It feels exotic and familiar at the same time.

Visa and entry
Indian tourists can enter Mauritius visa-free – no advance visa needed. Carry a passport valid for six months, your return ticket, hotel bookings and proof of funds. That simplicity is one reason Mauritius is so popular for honeymoons.
Where to stay
- North (Grand Baie): lively, with restaurants, shopping and calm swimming beaches.
- East (Belle Mare): long white beaches and some of the island’s most romantic resorts.
- South-west (Le Morne): dramatic mountain views, kitesurfing and quiet luxury.
Many couples split the stay between two resorts to see more of the island.
Spend a day on a catamaran – lunch on deck, snorkelling stops and a sunset that turns the whole lagoon gold.
A 6-night honeymoon plan
- Day 1: Arrive, settle into your resort and watch your first Indian Ocean sunset.
- Day 2: North tour – Port Louis market, Pamplemousses Botanical Garden with giant water lilies.
- Day 3: South tour – the Seven Coloured Earths of Chamarel, the waterfall, Grand Bassin’s sacred lake and Shiva statue.
- Day 4: Catamaran cruise to Île aux Cerfs with snorkelling and lunch on board.
- Days 5–6: Spa, beach and a candle-lit dinner – then home.
