The short answer
Choose Bali if you want romance and privacy – private pool villas, rice-terrace views, cliff-top sunsets and a slower, spa-led pace. Choose Thailand if you want variety – island hopping in Phuket and Krabi, lively nightlife, shopping in Bangkok and more to do every day. Many couples with 9–10 days even combine both.
Visa and entry rules for Indians (2026)
- Bali (Indonesia): Indians get a Visa on Arrival or e-VoA, currently IDR 500,000, valid for 30 days and extendable once. Bali also charges a one-time tourist levy of IDR 150,000 per person (pay online on the Love Bali portal) and you complete the free All Indonesia arrival declaration before landing.
- Thailand: Indian passport holders can enter visa-free. From 15 September 2026 the visa-free stay is 30 days. Every traveller must also fill the free Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online within 72 hours before arrival.

Bali is for slow, romantic days. Thailand is for couples who want a little of everything.
Best time to go
Bali is at its best in the dry season, roughly April to October; November to March brings short tropical showers but greener scenery and lower prices. Thailand’s peak beach season on the Andaman coast (Phuket, Krabi, Phi Phi) is November to March; from May to October the west coast sees monsoon seas, while Koh Samui on the Gulf side stays drier until October.

Stays and romance
Bali is famous for affordable private pool villas – in Seminyak, Ubud and Nusa Dua you can have your own pool, floating breakfast and in-villa dinner without a luxury-resort price tag. Thailand’s strength is beachfront resorts and island hotels with sea-view rooms, especially around Krabi and Phuket.

Bali: Ubud rice terraces and swings, Tegallalang, Tanah Lot and Uluwatu sunset temples, Nusa Penida day trip, Gili Islands snorkelling, couple spa sessions. Thailand: Phi Phi and James Bond Island speedboat tours, Krabi’s Railay beach, Bangkok temples and night markets, Pattaya’s Coral Island, Thai cooking classes.
Budget comparison
Both are value-for-money destinations from India. Thailand often works out slightly cheaper overall because of more flight options and competitive hotel prices; Bali gives more luxury per rupee when it comes to private villas. Your biggest cost drivers in both are flight dates, hotel category and how many island transfers you add.
Sample honeymoon plans
Bali, 6 nights: 3 nights Ubud (pool villa) + 3 nights Seminyak or Nusa Dua, with a Nusa Penida day trip. Thailand, 6 nights: 3 nights Krabi + 3 nights Phuket, with Phi Phi and 4-island tours. Explore our Bali packages and our Thailand packages – every one can be customised for couples.
Getting there from Delhi
Bangkok is about a four-hour direct flight from Delhi, and Phuket and Krabi are a short hop from there (direct Phuket flights also operate). Bali is a longer journey – typically one-stop via Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or Bangkok, around 8–10 hours door to door – although direct flights operate from some Indian cities. If you have only five or six days, Thailand’s shorter flight gives you more holiday time.
Food for Indian couples
Both destinations are very comfortable for Indian travellers. Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket have many Indian and pure-vegetarian restaurants; Bali has good Indian restaurants in Seminyak, Kuta and Ubud, and most villas can arrange Indian or Jain meals with notice. Fresh tropical fruit, smoothie bowls and Thai curries are easy vegetarian favourites.

Is Bali or Thailand cheaper for a honeymoon from India?
Thailand is usually a little cheaper overall thanks to more flight options, but Bali offers better value for private pool villas. The final cost depends on your dates, hotels and activities.
Do Indians need a visa for Bali and Thailand?
Bali requires a Visa on Arrival or e-VoA (IDR 500,000) plus a IDR 150,000 tourist levy. Thailand is visa-free for Indians for 30 days (from 15 September 2026), with a free online TDAC arrival card.
