Overview

Discover Rwanda's savannah wildlife and its tranquil lakeside on this private four-wheel drive journey with your own driver guide. After a Kigali city tour that takes in the Parliament museum, local markets and the Kigali Genocide Memorial, head east to Akagera National Park for game drives in search of the Big Five across its plains, lakes and wetlands., From Akagera you cross the country to Rubavu on the shores of Lake Kivu, often called Rwanda's seaside, for relaxed lakeside days and a visit to the border area with the Democratic Republic of Congo and the local markets. Back in Kigali, a guided evening walk in the city's Imbuga park and nearby craft shops rounds off the journey.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali

On arrival at Kigali International Airport, you are met by your driver guide and transferred to your hotel to check in.

Overnight: Kigali

Day 2: Kigali City Tour – Akagera National Park

After breakfast, enjoy a Kigali city tour including the Parliament museum, local markets and the Kigali Genocide Memorial at Gisozi, among other sites. Lunch is at own cost, with plenty of local and international choices.

Then drive about three hours to Akagera National Park for a game drive.

Day 3: Full Day Game Drive in Akagera

Spend the whole day on game drives in Akagera National Park, looking out for the Big Five and the park's other wildlife.

Day 4: Akagera – Rubavu

Enjoy a short morning game drive in the park, then transfer to Rubavu to behold the great Lake Kivu.

Day 5: Rubavu & Lake Kivu

The morning is at leisure by the lake. After lunch, visit the border area between Rwanda and Congo and the local markets.

Day 6: Rubavu – Kigali

Check out late morning and transfer to Kigali. In the evening, enjoy a guided walk in Imbuga City Walk park and the nearby craft shops.

Day 7: Departure from Kigali

Transfer to the airport for your departure flight.
