Overview

From Kigali you travel by private four-wheel drive with your driver guide to the edge of Volcanoes National Park, where the chance to trek in search of mountain gorillas in their misty forest home is one of the most moving wildlife encounters on earth., After the trek, continue to Rubavu on the shores of the great Lake Kivu, often called Rwanda's seaside, to relax by the water. The journey ends with a Kigali city tour that includes the local markets and the Kigali Genocide Memorial at Gisozi. Gorilla permits are purchased separately and should be secured well in advance.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali – Volcanoes National Park

On afternoon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you are met by your driver guide and transferred about two and a half hours to the vicinity of Volcanoes National Park.

Overnight: Musanze

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking – Rubavu

After an early breakfast, drive to the park office for the seven o'clock gorilla trekking briefing. Drive to the starting trail; after the trek, your driver brings you back to the hotel for lunch. Treks usually take four to six hours, and visitors spend one hour with the gorilla family. Trekking is permitted only from fifteen years of age, and the gorilla permit is not included.

In the afternoon, transfer about one and a half hours to Rubavu, on the shores of the great Lake Kivu.

Day 3: Rubavu – Kigali City Tour

Check out late morning and transfer to Kigali for a city tour that includes local markets and the Kigali Genocide Memorial at Gisozi, among other sites.

Day 4: Departure from Kigali

Transfer to the airport for your departure flight.
