Kerala is green in a way you can almost smell – wet earth, tea leaves, cardamom. You drift through the backwaters on a houseboat while women wash clothes on the bank and kingfishers flash blue. The pace slows. Your shoulders drop. This is the holiday most of us actually need.
Why Kerala
In one short trip you get misty tea hills, spice forests, calm backwaters and golden beaches – all within a few hours’ drive. Add Kerala’s food, Ayurveda and warm hospitality, and it is easy to see why it is called God’s Own Country.
When to go
September to March is the best time – fresh after the rains, pleasant and green. December and January are peak season, so book early. June to August is the monsoon: heavy rain, lush scenery and the traditional season for Ayurveda treatments, often at lower prices.
Kerala is not about ticking off sights. It is about water, green and a slower heartbeat.
